Small groups at Cornerstone are the primary place we believe people grow in faith and grow into leadership. Our vision is to double the number of groups over the next three years and for those groups to creatively and confidently impact our church and town. Our current groups are listed below. If you would like to join a group please contact Bridgit Laws our Discipleship Group Coordinator or speak to her on Sundays near the small group sign up desk.
All-Age Discipleship 1: A friendly and informal group that meets fortnightly on a Friday teatime or Sunday after church. It is open to anyone: single, married and families and we meet at times and in ways that enable all ages to talk, learn and pray together. We begin with a simple pattern of prayer we use each time, have a meal together, have a creative and fun prayer or learning activity and have a time when the children can play outside or watch a DVD and the adults can talk together. This group is coordinated by Anthony and Amanda Clarke.
All-Age Discipleship 2: Due to the success of group 1 and much demand we multiplied our all-age groups about 6 months ago. Group 2 meets every 3 weeks on Sunday lunch times and follows a similar pattern to that described above. We've made our own patterns of traditions to begin our time together, still enjoy great food all together and also do an all-age creative prayer or faith activity. After pudding the kids play together or watch a film and the adults chat about how to live a lively faith at home, work and in the playground. This group is coordinated by Paddy and Clare Harris.
COGS: Meets termly on Monday Mornings for a women's Bible study. Pre-schoolers very welcome and will always have a selection of toys to play with in this relaxed and baby friendly group. COGS also helps every first Monday at 'With a Little Love' our baby clothes lending library set up by Lucy Mayer one of our church members. COGS features times of prayer, Bible study, just relaxed hanging out and also plans and runs events and activities throughout the year. It meets in a variety of church member's homes and is coordinated by Clare Harris.
Monday Nights: We began as a group of individuals with a desire to get to grips with the Bible by reading it through in a year. That was two years ago and whilst some of us still haven’t quite finished the original project, we’ve also looked at 6 Steps to Reading the Bible, God’s promises and the book of Daniel. Our little group has grown and we've had a lot of fun and enjoyed being challenged as we've worked through these studies and have all grown deeper and more secure in our faith as a result. We meet every Monday evening in term time. This group is coordinated by Phil Heard.
Monday Lunchtime inter-church: Meets weekly during term time for in-depth Bible study, lunch, prayer and fellowship. Ladies from any church congregation or background are welcome. This group shares life with all its joys and challenges and seeks to grow a faith that sustains, protects and leads at home, work and in the family. The group started as a triplet and has grown as others have desired something deeper and more challenging when it comes to faith. This group is coordinated by Sally Hobson.
Tuesday Daytime: Meets at 10:00am - 11:30am on most Tuesday mornings. We follow the church's preaching series and take turns to host and lead the session. On a normal session, we eat a lovely light brunch together before opening God's word and exploring what it means for our daily lives. New members are always welcome; this is a great group for those who maybe haven't been part of a small group before or are wanting to explore faith. The group is pastorally very caring and always finishes praying for each other. This group is coordinated by Mike Bradley.
Tuesday evenings: We meet from 7.45 to 9.30pm with snack food on 2nd Thursday and a meal on 4th Thursday of the month. Besides eating our other main focus is to study the Bible and pray for each other, our church and town and beyond. "Healing" in its widest sense is what underpins the emphasis we have as a discipleship group. Everyone takes turns leading sessions, hosting and praying and it's been really encouraging seeing the skills and gifts of the entire group growing this term. Anyone is welcome. This group is coordinated by Chris and Sue Scupham.
Thursday Inspired: Began as a group following the 'Daniel Plan' material from Rick Warren which combined a healthy spirituality with a healthy lifestyle. Since then the group has moved and grown and continues to seek to inspire healthy lives by going into God's word and have great fun doing it. Mixing social evenings with Bible study hopefully inspires those who come along to have faith blended throughout all of life. Coordinated by Helen Bancroft our Lay Minister in training, this group share the leading and hosting and meet most Thursday nights from 7:45pm - 9:30pm.
